Chinese EV BYD Forecasts 86.5% Surge in 2023 Net Profit
Chinese electric vehicle BYD anticipates a substantial 86.5% increase in net profit for the fiscal year 2023 compared to the previous year, propelled by robust sales and strategic cost-saving measures.
BYD, known for its innovative contributions to the EV industry, projects its net profit for 2023 to range between 29 billion and 31 billion yuan ($4.04-4.32 billion), marking a notable surge of 74.46-86.49% from the preceding year. This surge, albeit impressive, signifies a slower growth pace compared to the staggering 446% increase witnessed in 2022, where BYD's net profit soared to 16.6 billion yuan.
Despite facing stiff competition within the industry, BYD remains resilient, attributing its enhanced profitability to several key factors. These include the rapid expansion of overseas sales, leveraging scale advantages, and adept management of costs throughout its supply chain.
In contrast, BYD's primary competitor, Tesla, reported a comparatively modest 19.4% growth in net profit for 2023, amounting to $15 billion.
The last quarter of 2023 witnessed BYD's ascendancy as the leading EV manufacturer by sales volume, surpassing Tesla with a delivery of 526,409 vehicles, in contrast to Tesla's 484,507 cars. Throughout 2023, BYD achieved remarkable sales figures, selling approximately 3.02 million vehicles, reflecting a significant uptick of 61.9%.
Expanding its global footprint, BYD unveiled three new battery EV models in Indonesia in January, signaling its ambition to secure a dominant market position in Southeast Asia's burgeoning economy.
Beyond automotive ventures, BYD's business portfolio extends to include the sale of electronic components for smartphones, further diversifying its revenue streams.
